Indoor Walking: Pulse is a workout on the cross-trainer for those who want to work on their conditioning.
Throughout the session, you measure your pulse with a heart rate monitor around your chest – a great motivational carrot and a really good way to learn how the exercise feels at different percentages of your maximum heart rate.
You see your heart rate and effort level projected on the wall (but only you know which measurements are yours). This helps you to modify your level of exertion during your workout: to not push yourself too hard during the warm-up and to dare to really go for it during the heavier parts of the session.
The pattern of motion on the cross-trainer (walker) resembles that of running and skiing. The entire body is engaged, resulting in a sensation that is wonderfully flowing, but that is also hard work! You also get a torso workout and balance into the bargain. Indoor Walking is also gentle on the knees, regardless of how much you choose to challenge yourself.
It is up to you to choose and regulate the resistance settings on your own walker. The leader guides and motivates you throughout the workout. The heart rate monitor gives an extra kick and guides you from start to finish.
Trying for the first time? Due to the size of the walker and the distance between the pedals and handles, you should be at least 150 cm tall.
